Casting My Vision: What COULD be, SHOULD be.

I’ve been reading the book “Visioneering” by Andy Stanley. The book goes into God’s blueprint for developing and maintaining our personal vision. In the weeks ahead, I’ll be sharing some quotes/thoughts that stood out to me from each chapter. Here are a few from the introduction:

Thought #1 – “Without a clear vision, odds are you will come to the end of your life and wonder. Wonder what you could have done-what you should have done. And like so many, you may wonder if your life really mattered at all.” – Page 9

How many times have we thought and wondered what we were suppose to do, what we were meant to do & the type of people we were meant to become. As a result, we just end up going through the same day to day routine, without giving any thought to the future. We were meant to thrive, not just survive.

Thought #2 – “Specifically, vision weaves four things into the fabric of our daily experience: passion, motivation, direction & purpose” – Page 9

Through vision, our emotions are stirred which strengthens commitment. It motivates us to power through the mundane. It simplifies our decision making and gives us purpose. Without vision, life would be meaningless.

Thought #3 – “Your uniqueness and individuality will reach its pinnacle in the context of your pursuit of God’s plan for your life…Unless you discover God’s unique vision for your future, your life may very well be a rerun.” – Page 15

The image that pops up in my mind is the Marvel Comic hero “Captain America”. Here’s a guy who was unable to physically withstand the rigors of army life. Then he was selected and injected with a “super soldier” serum which enabled him to achieve human perfection and be who he was intended to be. Tapping into God’s “super soldier serum”, we reach our full potential and become the man/woman God intended us to be.

We are a product of God’s vision. He’s already thought of what we could and should be. In order to live a life that has impact long after our own lives, we must grab God’s vision.

“Life is a multifaceted journey. It calls for a multifaceted vision.” (Page 8) So where do we start? How do we begin to develop vision for our lives? What do you think?
